I don't think you were hard on it at all - now that I'm away from it, I'm realizing more and more that living in Bretagne is so unlike living elsewhere in France. And that it takes a certain kind of (rare) person to survive & thrive there.
And you even had a local boyfriend to help you out! But, that's an odd contrast, because while you had an inroad into the local community, it also had an inroad into YOU, whereas Emily and I were cut off yet a safe harbor and shelter for each other. I think it hindered our integration while helping our sanity a lot, at the same time.
